C&O Canal Trail

The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal was built during the "transportation revolution" to connect Washington DC with Cumberland, MD, along the Potomac River. Construction began in 1828 and finished in 1850, with active use from 1831 to 1924. Today, the NPS hosts the 184.5-mile trail as a national historical park. The trail runs between the river... Indian Creek Trail

I finished my weekend of riding with a relaxing pass along the Indian Creek Trail and Blue River Trail. It was a mix of gravel (above), busy public parks, and the backside of strip malls.

West Davis Trail

The opening of the West Davis Highway brings a welcomed new trail that connects Legacy Parkway Trail to Bluff Trail (aka Emigration Trail). The pavement is all laid, except for a few spots in Farmington, and there are many trailheads, including some gravel. The trail's bridges and tunnels make it an almost uninterrupted 10-mile ride... I got off about 2/3 of the way along for a stop at Disneyland, where I bought a gift for Sunshine and some sweet treats for me! The trail was... Continue Reading →

Argyll and Bute, Scotland

I've been very much looking forward to this ride with a good friend in Scotland. I picked up a hired (rented) bike in Helensburgh and we crisscrossed the John Muir Way as we rode over the hills and through a glen between Loch Lomond and Gare Loch. We began and ended in Helensburgh, a cute... Continue Reading →

Richmond, VA

Today I had a few hours before catching a flight, so I picked up a rental bike from the Kickstand and rode nearly 20 miles among the trails and streets of Richmond. Richmond's skyline viewed from the east on Church hill. I started at the canal along the north side of the James River and... Continue Reading →

September 8, 2023 Another work assignment brought another opportunity - 15 miles round trip, from downtown out to the West Greenbelt bridge and back. August 6, 2020 Another work assignment gave me another shot at this wonderful trail. Want to return. July 16, 2020 When a work assignment sent me to Boise, ID, I took... Continue Reading →

Erie Canal

Today I rode the Erie Canalway Trail from Pittsford, near Rochester, to Palmyra and back again. The full trail runs 360 miles from Buffalo to Albany, but the segment I rode was both charming and peaceful. The ride began and ended in Pittsford. The view towards Fairport Cottony clouds in the skies Cottonwood seeds on... Continue Reading →

Phoenix Grand Canal

The Grand Canal is the oldest remaining pioneer canal on the north side of Phoenix's Rio Salado (Salt River). In 2020, a $22.5 million redevelopment project added a multi-use path with public art, landscaping, pedestrian lighting, bridges, and signaled crossing. For trail details see All Trails, Trail Link.
